Hi, I am Darleen, an American student at IE University Madrid. I grew up in an immigrant household and watched my parents struggle to learn English, and that is what drives me to help others on that same journey. I am here to make learning English feel natural, comfortable, and achievable.

I grew up in an immigrant household in the United States. English came naturally to me because I was born there and learned it as a child, but watching my parents navigate a language that didn't belong to them, seeing how hard that journey was, how much courage it took just to communicate in daily life, stayed with me. That is genuinely why I am here.
I am not a certified language teacher. I am a native American English speaker studying PPLE at IE University Madrid, and I chose to tutor because I believe the path to learning English does not have to be as difficult as it was for my parents. If I can make even one part of that journey a little smoother for a child or teenager, that matters to me.
My approach is relaxed anconversation-first. No pressure, no drilling grammar until someone wants to give up. We start where the student is, whatever level, whatever age, and build from there through real conversation about things they actually care about. A typical session starts with 10 minutes of easy talking to warm up and shake off any nerves. Then we spend 25 to 30 minutes on what they need most, practicing conversation, or working on reading and listening skills. I want to be upfront that my focus is on helping students feel comfortable actually using English in real life, not on formal grammar instruction. Think of me less as a grammar teacher and more as a native English conversation partner who genuinely wants to see your child succeed.
I work with children and teenagers from primary through secondary school, all levels welcome. Whether your child is just starting out or needs more confidence to actually use the English they already know, I meet them where they are and move at their pace.
I am patient, I am honest, and I genuinely care about making this easier than it was for the people I grew up watching struggle through it.
