Acerca de Matthew
Matthew Sheehan is a multilingual educator, writer, and multimedia artist with over 20 years of professional experience. Since an early age, he has strived to improve intercultural communication and language competences of people worldwide, promote peace and tolerance across cultures, and create a more sustainable and eco- conscious world. For the last 15 years he has achieved these goals primarily through working within the field of education.
Throughout his career he has taken on high level leadership roles where he has been responsible for the management, coordination, and facilitation of several models of academic programs and other creative organizations. Working as such, throughout the years, he has developed strong inter-cultural communication skills and has had to apply his knowledge and expertise in a variety of professional disciplines including but not limited to: international, ESL and special education, educational management and administration, fine arts, music, performing arts, multimedia production and design, social media communication, marketing, public relations, research and analysis, and independent consultancy in a variety of sectors.
As far as his teaching credentials are concerned, he was born and educated in the United States, but has lived, worked, and more specifically taught in many different countries around the world throughout his life. For the last nine years he has been living in various parts of Spain teaching in their public and private school systems.
Additionally, five years ago he started his own small business working as a free lance agent in educational consultancy. Thus far, his career in education has spanned a period of over 20 years, where he has been working with children and adults in both public and private schools as well as other online educational ESL programs.
With respect to his educational background and professional training, he graduated from Emerson College in Boston, MA, U.S.A. in 2007 with his bachelors in Writing and Directing for Theatre and Film. In addition to his undergraduate studies in Boston, Matthew also studied European philosophy and art history, creative writing, cinematography, and other fine arts in Holland, France, Poland, The Czech Republic, Germany, England, Ireland, Italy, Bosnia, Croatia, Spain, and Portugal. He then went on to study Artistic Direction for Multimedia Production and Design in Greece and Turkey through the Hellenic International Study in the Arts Program.
Later he continued with his research and completed several independent studies in environmental sustainability, alternative healthcare and medicine, and anthropological studies focused on social inequality and injustice, religious intolerance, human trafficking and genocide, while traveling and living through different parts of Honduras, Nicaragua, Belize, Mexico, Egypt, and India.
In 2009 he returned to the United States and began to work as a Program Director / Head of Studies for West Bay Collaborative Intensive Transition Program as part of the state of Rhode Island’s public school system. In collaboration with his co-director, he created a new start-up program for young adults with physical, mental, and developmental disabilities that focused on academic, vocational, and transitional services. Later in 2011 he went on to work as a Digital Media Manager / Art Instructor / Direct Support Professional through Resources for Human Development in Rhode Island, U.S.A. There he was responsible for designing and implementing specialized art therapy programs to rehabilitate mentally, physically, and developmentally disabled adults. Then, in 2013 he went on to become TEFL / TESOL/ TESL /TEFL certified and began teaching English as a freelance consultant in different locations around the world.
Then in 2015, he decided to take a unique opportunity in order to professionally develop and acquire additional linguistic skills and moved to Madrid, Spain. During this period, he worked closely with the Spanish Ministry of Education for four years, helping them to improve several aspects of their public bilingual educational systems. In addition, to this invaluable work experience, during this period in Madrid, he also received his Masters in International Education / Administration from Instituto Franklin- Universidad de Alcalá de Henares where he developed a thesis which analyzed topics related to the reevaluation and call for reformation of teaching methodology, curricula, and learning environments in public school systems around the world. For the last five years, he has been living and working as a freelance educational consultant in Barcelona, Spain where he has maintained a number Spaniards and other Europeans as private clients. In addition, he has also worked for several international Asian companies, teaching children and adults through different online forums.
